1 Chronicles 17; Revelation 2:18-29
Where is the line between exulting God’s name and promoting God’s name?
Why was David not allowed to build the temple? Perhaps it was because David was in danger of over stepping his position. Yes, he was King. But he was firstly God’s servant. It was not David’s role to help God make a name for himself. It was not David’s role to establish God’s place in Israel. It is God who has made David’s name great and it is God who will (1 Chronicles 17:8-9):
make your name like the names of the greatest men on earth. And I (God) will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed
Often I am in danger of thinking I can do God a favour by helping him. But all along it is God who has been helping me.
How small is your God? Does he rely on you? Does he need you to make a name for him?
Or is it He who has made you?
We exult him for what he has done and He is the one who promotes us into his kingdom, not because anything we have done.
