I’m late once again… sorry Church
I love the book of Ezekiel. The judgement that is outlayed in it is so so hectic, but I feel like God’s heart is powerfully revealed through it all. The underlying verse for the whole book for me is 8:17: “Is it a trivial matter for the house of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing to here?” We see that it is very much not a trivial matter.
Ezekiel 13 describes God’s response to the wickedness of Israel’s prophets. Let us not miss the tragedy of what is happening. The people who were meant to be the revealing the revelation of God to the people and his will for their lives were doing the exact opposite. v2, “Hear the word of the Lord!” This is what they were meant to be doing the whole time!
“Then you will know that I am the Lord.” As is the pattern through the book, Gods unloads judgement after judgement on his people because of their sinfulness – such is the gravity of sinning against an infinitely holy God. It is not a trivial matter.
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. v11-14
Not much needs to be said beyond lets continue asking God to lead us and reveal to us how this can describe our lives more and more and more until the day we see him in glory.
